If you follow our work here, you know we talk about propolis a lot. While conventional beekeeping has spent the last 170 years treating this sticky substance as a nuisance, we went the other direction. We designed our Propola hive specifically to encourage bees to build a rich, thick propolis envelope.

A study published in PLOS ONE reveals the precise mechanism behind how propolis protects a colony. Researchers found that specific compounds in propolis, like quercetin, bind directly to viral proteins. This physical bond disrupts and neutralizes resilient viruses before they can replicate.
